Adult/Family Camp Fact Sheet
Length of programs: Friday afternoon thru Sunday at 3:30 or 4:00 p.m. (or, when offered, Monday at noon). Curriculum: Learning theory, drills, videotape analysis and supervised play. An Ed Collins camp is a combination of instruction, drills and play (afternoon doubles tournament and team play with/against players of similar experience). Technical lessons are suggested. Group and (some) private instruction. Expect to gain insight into playing the game, as well as learning the skills. Structured, fun and lots of balls hit. More on Ed's teaching methodology at A Method of Teaching Tennis. Camp enrollment: Mostly adult singles and couples, a few families. Limited to 32 campers. All levels represented (although not appropriate for beginners). Groups are arranged to provide a comfortable learning and playing experience. Coaching: USPTA Ed Collins is in attendance every day. Staff may include other professionals, along with college student/athletes. Housing and meals: Resident campers are housed in semi-private dorm rooms on campus. Private rooms are available at an extra cost of $35 per night. Breakfast and lunch included for residents (dinner is available). Lunch only for day campers. 3-day camp: Each minicamp begins with a three-hour session on Friday at 2:00 p.m. (introductions, lessons and play). Saturday and Sunday's schedule is 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.. 4-day camp (when offered): Includes a three-hour session on Monday morning. After tennis: Optional off-campus dinner and the occasional Bahia Belle cruise on Mission Bay. How to Enroll: Click on Camp Sign Up, follow directions.
